Alireza Tangsiri, head of Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ (IRGC) naval forces, was killed in an Israeli airstrike, confirmed by U.S. and Israeli officials. The strike targeted the Iranian naval commander responsible for effectively shutting down the Strait of Hormuz to commercial shipping. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that the IDF conducted a "precise and lethal operation" to eliminate Tangsir. The U.K. Central Command (CENTCOM) confirmed Tangsri's death in a statement posted to X.
