The U.S. Department of Justice has filed a federal lawsuit against the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minnesota State High School League, alleging that the state is violating Title IX by allowing transgender athletes to compete in girls' sports. The complaint accuses both agencies of sex discrimination against female student athletes. The lawsuit alleges that Minnesota's policies force girls to compete against biological males in sports designated exclusively for girls and share locker rooms and bathrooms with male students. The DOJ is seeking a permanent injunction from the court to bar males from competing in female-designated sports, require sex-separated intimate spaces, and establish a process to compensate affected female athletes.
