Kankakee County Circuit Judge Kathy Bradshaw-Elliott has ordered the trial of Xandria Harris, charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder, and child endangerment for the shooting death of Bradley Police Sgt. Marlene Rittmanic and the serious wounding of Officer Tyler Bailey. Harris has been in jail since December 2021, a period of more than four-and-a-half years. Kankake County Circuit Court Attorney Cierra Norris, representing Harris, argued that Harris was not asking for a speedy trial and that her client's case was not going to trial. Bradshaw Elliott stated that she would hold Norris in contempt if she was not in court.
