Texas investor Gentry Beach, who has ties to the Trump family, is working on a project to tap natural gas from Alaska's North Slope using Russian technology. His company, America First LNG, aims to install facilities on the North Slop where gas can be super-chilled into a liquid and then shipped to Asian entities. The project, Polar Eagle, would use technology developed by Russia's Novatek, and could potentially cost $20 billion. However, experts believe the project is unlikely to become reality due to permitting requirements, sanctions on Russia for its invasion of Ukraine, and unexpected costs from operating in thick sea ice. Beach owns investment firm America First Global and claims that the project will not compete with the ongoing Alaska LNG megaproject.
