OpenAI and Anthropic have met with the House Homeland Security Committee to discuss their new cyber-capable AI models and their implications for cybersecurity. This is one of the first briefings with lawmakers about cyber threats posed by their new models, particularly to under-resourced critical infrastructure sectors. The companies are working with federal agencies to secure access to the models. The briefings also touched on a recent White House memo accusing China of "industrial-scale" campaigns to distill and copy American AI models. This comes as part of a larger effort by the committee to identify risks and ensure that Congress is asking the right questions.
