April is Financial Literacy Month, an effort to encourage early conversations about money. Charles Schwab has launched the Schwab Teen Investor account for teens aged 13-17, allowing them to trade basic investments while their parents monitor their activity. The account is available for purchase through workshops and one-on-one guidance provided by the local branch. A recent Schwab study showed that 70% of teens are very or extremely interested in investing, and nearly half say they want to grow their money. The company's senior financial consultant, Terry Flesher, suggests that investing teaches teens critical life skills and teaches them about risk.
