Waymo glitch sparks push for stronger autonomous vehicle regulations

Tech entrepreneur Mike Johns has become an advocate for consumer protections and transparency in autonomous vehicle technology, following a recent incident involving a Waymo car that caused him to worry he might miss his flight. Following the incident, Johns formed Consumer AI Protection Advocates to advocate for responsible AI innovation. The group also highlighted research from Dr. Sharon Bethea on the impact of outlier incidents on public trust. They are urging states to adopt stronger data and transparency policies for autonomous vehicles. A bill before the Arizona Legislature would overhaul the rules for autonomous vehicle, allowing cities and towns to regulate where autonomous vehicles can stage and park, and companies to require state approval before expanding their service areas.
