House Democrats prepare to abandon Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick en masse

Many House Democrats are ready to vote to expel Rep. Sheila Cherfilus-McCormick (D-Fla.) from Congress, pending a meeting of the House Ethics Committee to decide her fate. The Republicans are expected to force an expulsion vote, but they will need roughly 80 Democratic votes to remove her. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries has not specified how he might advise his members to vote, even if the committee approves of a bipartisan expulsion. Some lawmakers expect the Ethics Committee's recommendation to recommend expulsion, but others believe it won't matter even if party leadership approves.
