A study by U.K. researchers has found that excessive sugary drinks can increase the risk of anxiety among teens, according to the Journal of Human Nutrition and Dietetics. The study compared various studies from 2000 to 2025 to determine the link between drinking sugar-sweetened beverages and anxiety disorders in adolescents aged 10 to 19. Teens with a higher consumption of these drinks were found to have a 34% greater risk of having an anxiety disorder compared to those who drank less. Seven out of the nine studies analyzed showed a positive association between sugary drink intake and anxiety symptoms. However, the study was based on observational data, which does not prove that drinking sugary beverages directly causes anxiety.
