The Bureau of Prisons has been accused of hiding a secret sexual misconduct at its women's prison, Bryan, which is a facility for women's inmates. The allegations stem from allegations of staff sexual misconduct against staff member Ross, who was accused of using his position of authority to manipulate his control over women's affairs. While a federal investigation into Ross was ongoing, he was allowed to remain at work, but other prison workers were assigned to follow him around the facility and he was not allowed around the women unsupervised. While still incarcerated in Alabama in 2024, Marie sued Ross in federal court, accusing him of sexually assaulting her. The complaint was dismissed after she didn't submit paperwork needed to waive the $405 filing fee. The claims have been investigated by the Bureau of Justice and the United States Office of the Inspector General, but Smith has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
