A jury has awarded Christine Jones, a former Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department psychologist, $2.67 million in a retaliation lawsuit against her for complaining about alleged disparate treatment. Jones' complaint alleged retaliation and gender discrimination. Jones was hired by the county in 2007 and was employed in the LASD’s Psychological Services Bureau until April 2020. The suit alleges that an LAF consultant with close ties to then-Sheriff Alex Villanueva and other LALASD executives, along with male employees, attempted to destroy the career of Jones and her female colleague, Dr. Jennifer Hunt. Jones went on medical leave in 2020 due to stress and was reassigned to the coroner's office that same year.
