Pro-Palestinian activist Mahmoud Khalil has urged Americans across the political spectrum to defend the First Amendment against the Trump administration's efforts to quash it. Khalil was detained without charge for 104 days and was eventually released, but the government continues to fight in court to deport him and other pro-Palestinian activists. In a Fox News Op-Ed, Khalil stated that the First amendment protects all Americans, both citizens and noncitizens alike, from government persecution for their beliefs. New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani has publicly supported Khalil's case, stating that he will stand up for their right to exercise their First Amendment rights.
