New Jersey Governor Sherrill has outlined her plan to respond to Federal Medicaid cuts, which could potentially leave 300,000 New Jersey residents out of the system due to new requirements. She proposed changes that would increase the burden on corporations that employ people using Medicaid. The changes include mandatory verification of Medicaid status twice a year, and work requirements for individuals with children under 15. Sherrill's budget includes $7.2 billion in state funding for NJ FamilyCare, which provides health care to over 1.8 million residents, including nearly half of the state's children. She also proposed new mental health programs for children, addressing the effects of social media and the internet on children's mental health. The state will also invest in new technology to help families meet new paperwork requirements and will seek reforms to pharmacy benefit managers (Pharmacy Benefit Managers) that may increase prescription costs.
