Steven Soderbergh's latest film, "The Christophers," has been hailed as a modern interrogation of the future of art by the director. The film follows the story of a fading painter, Julian Sklar, and his assistant, Lori, who are hired to complete his last series of portraits. The movie questions the value of art in relation to the original artist's style. Despite recent comments made by the film's director about generative AI, the film’s release has been met with disappointment. Soderberggh has previously been working with AI on an upcoming documentary about John Lennon and Yoko Ono, using genAI programs to create dreamlike imagery that evokes their subject's philosophical musings. He also mentioned that he is also using AI for an upcoming film about the Spanish-American War.
