State prosecutors in New Jersey have updated their update on the Jan. 19 shooting that resulted in the death of Wali Bey, a 42-year-old Newark resident, who was shot multiple times by a Newark police officer. The incident occurred when an officer with the Newark Police Department's quality-of life unit was conducting surveillance near Ross and Thorne streets and allegedly saw suspected narcotics activity involving several people and two vehicles, including a white Chrysler. The responding officers detained two civilians and directed verbal commands for the vehicle's driver, Bey. The officer who fired multiple shots, along with another civilian, Nashid Reynolds, was one of the officers who responded. Both Bey and the other wounded civilian were taken to University Hospital and Bey died shortly afterwards. The state's investigation into the shooting continues. The New Jersey attorney general's office has released video and audio recordings of the shooting, which can be viewed here.
