The 41st Guadalajara Film Festival (FICG) will open with Fernando Eimbcke's "Flies" (Moscas), a black & white drama that premiered at the Berlinale. The festival, which moved to a Spring date to avoid clashing with World Cup soccer games, will feature international stars such as Darren Aronofsky, Edgar Ramirez, and Lola Dueñas. Chile, as the guest country of honor, will send its big guns with Pablo Larrain, Sebastián Lelio and Maite Alberdi leading a contingent of 10 films planned for the festival. Festival director Estrella Araiza noted a stronger focus on social cinema this year, with Mexican filmmakers competing across various sections. FICG's Industria section, run by Ximena Urrutia, has launched a new strand called FICGs Generation, which will educate aspiring film students about the festival and industry programs.
