Democratic lawmakers in Colorado are advancing legislation that would require college and university health clinics to provide abortion medication to students on campus. The bill, which cleared the House Education Committee in an 8-5 vote, focuses on medication used to terminate pregnancies and does not apply to surgical abortion procedures. Higher education institutions that already operate on-campus health clinics or pharmacies would be required to stock abortion medication and make it available to students. Religious institutions would be exempt if conflict with their religious beliefs or practices conflict with this. The sponsor of the bill, Democratic state Rep. Lorena García, argues that this aligns with the constitution that grants everyone the right to abortion.
