The Sony and Honda collaboration, formed to develop and produce the AFEELA, is no longer due to Honda's decision to abandon its electric vehicle strategy. The decision was made by Sony Honda Mobility, the company formed to produce and develop the car. The Afeela, which was first introduced in 2022 and initially priced at $102,900, was expected to reach 300 miles, but its specifications were not impressive compared to other high-quality cars. The car's launch model was priced at a ridiculous $100,900 and its later version, originally set to arrive in 2027, out-pricing competing cars like the Lucid Air and Tesla Model S. This move was seen as a setback for Sony as Honda's mixed bag approach to electrification. However, the car's high-priced price tag and limited range numbers were deemed insufficient by macro economics and the market's demand for luxury sedans with middling range numbers.
