The US and UK authorities are warning citizens to take immediate steps to secure their internet routers following a cyber operation linked to Russian intelligence. The FBI has conducted a court-authorized action to dismantle part of a network of compromised home and small office routers, which were located in at least 23 states. The operation successfully reset affected router settings and prevented further access from hackers without disrupting device function or collecting personal user data. The recommended measures include updating router firmware, replacing outdated equipment, changing default usernames and passwords, and disabling remote access features.
