Application period now open for the 2027 update of the WHO Model Lists of Essential Medicines

The 26th meeting of the WHO Expert Committee on the Selection and Use of Essential Medicines (EML) will take place at WHO Headquarters in Geneva from 3 to 7 May 2027. The application period is open and the deadline for submissions is 6 November 2026. The WHO Model Lists are reviewed and updated every two years by the committee. They provide an evidence-based model for countries' national essential medicine lists, which are considered necessary for all health systems regardless of development level. Over 150 countries use the WHO Model List to develop their national essential medicines lists and to guide their purchasing decisions.
