Fire chemical plant in Pasadena contained; emergency officials say cause of incident unknown

A fire broke out at the LyondellBasell plant in Pasadena, Texas, late Thursday night. The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office reported that two tanks caught fire and no injuries were reported. The plant is a chemical process unit and all employees are accounted for. The cause of the incident is unknown. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality conducted fenceline air monitoring of the facility and Harris County Pollution Control conducted additional air monitoring. Records show there have been 36 instances of unauthorized air contaminants released at the Bayport facility in the last five years.
