Superagers' 'Secret Ingredient' May Be The Growth of New Brain Cells

A study led by the University of Illinois Chicago has found that superagers, people who retain exceptional memory as they age, have twice as many immature neurons as their peers who age more typically. The study also found that people with Alzheimer's disease show a significant reduction in neurogenesis compared to a normal baseline. The research could help identify therapeutic ways to boost neurogeneresis and resilience, as well as environmental and lifestyle factors. The findings were published in Nature.
