North, South Carolina Attorneys General call for federal intervention to curb fentanyl-linked money laundering

The North and South Carolina Attorneys General have called for federal intervention to curb the fentanyl crisis, which is killing nearly four dozen people a week in their states. North Carolina Attorney General Jeff Jackson stated that the crisis is a "poison that undermines the safety of our entire community" and demands immediate response. In South Carolina, Attorney General Alan Wilson said there were 2,157 drug overdose deaths in South Carolina in 2023, which were related to fentanyl. Attorneys general Jackson and Wilson have been focusing on the fentanyl trafficking industry and money laundering tied to fentanyl by targeting the app WeChat. They believe that WeChat has cooperated with them and are now focusing on Weixin.
