The US government is pushing for no restrictions on AI usage, following a public contract negotiation with Anthropic (Claude) CEO Dario Amodei. The White House canceled all contracts with the company, arguing that it required licenses covering all legal uses. However, Anthropic had requested two limitations on Claude's use, including not being used to spy on U.S. citizens and creating fully autonomous weapons. This move effectively blackballed the company and led to significant economic retaliation. Industry experts have been urging for AI guidelines and regulation, with Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI (ChatGPT), proposing a starting framework for legislation. Henry Kissinger warned that the AI race would be even more dangerous than the nuclear arms race.
