A report by researchers at the Tufts University Fletcher School and Digital Planet has warned that artificial intelligence could disrupt millions of American jobs, particularly in white-collar professions. The study suggests that roughly 9.3 million U.S. jobs are vulnerable to AI-driven disruption, with estimates ranging from 2.7 million to nearly 20 million depending on how quickly the technology is adopted. The most vulnerable roles are those heavily involved in language and digital tasks. The report also highlights the potential impact of AI on local economies, suggesting that large innovation hubs like New York, Los Angeles, Washington, D.C., San Francisco, Chicago, and and Boston could each face at least $20 billion in annual income losses tied to AI disruption.
